Akira Miyawaki was a renowned Japanese botanist and plant ecologist, known for his work in restoring natural vegetation on degraded land. He was famous for his 'Miyawaki forests'. He received the Blue Planet Prize in 2006.
Akira Miyawaki (1928 – 2021) was a Japanese botanist and expert in plant ecology, specializing in seeds and the study of natural forests. He was active worldwide as a specialist in the restoration of natural vegetation on degraded land. Since 1993, he had been planting ‘Miyawaki forests’ which attract biodiversity and grow at a fast rate, in various parts of the world. He was a recipient of the Blue Planet Prize in 2006.
